You need a battleship or well fit small ship (HAC, T3, command ship) to earn decent ISK doing missions. Even then, it's pretty bad. Orbit beacons in FW instead and make mad cash with a cheap frigate.

It depends. Some times in past it has, sometimes it hasn't. In future though I think it will make me happy much more than it makes me sad (and more importantly it will expand my intellect)

What's wrong with renting? it means a ton of people are active, and thus targets. There won't be a "big blue donut" for long because all power and prosperity is relative.

For small gang and solo, I'd go for Gallente droneboats over Amarr for sure. That said, I'd still train and use Amarr droneboats, they're good. (just train those skills after the gallente ones).

Yes, playing defense does give you a significant advantage in FW. Honestly mate though capturing FW plexes solo does give great ISK, i'm not sure it's the most fun or balanced PVP battleground. Try roaming through nullsec in a frigate. Go to map ...

Yep, it's true. Tech 2 are better than Tech 1, but why is that a bad thing? Most tech 2 mods aren't very expensive at all, and don't take that long to train for.
